Insights in the face of constraints: a few simple skills for better decisions
October 20, 2021 @ 5:30 pm - 7:00 pm CDT
Imagine your next code release is in two days. It includes a known defect. The only fix you can manage is an instruction guiding users away from the problem. Should you hold the release? Or, your team proposes two information architectures during a re-platforming. In due diligence, you interview a dozen users over 4 weeks. The outcomes show an even split, 6 to 6.
Each scenario is as common as it is maddening. Despite our best intentions for being data-informed, it sometimes feels like there’s never enough time to do the right research. And even when time is abundant, research can seem to point nowhere. Fortunately, just a few concepts from the research discipline can help frame studies, control bias, and drive better outcomes. This talk introduces some of these concepts and applies them to common product management dilemmas like validating solutions and measuring outcomes.
Come take your first step toward mastering the skills that should be in every research bootcamp (but aren’t).
Our speaker, David Niedergeses, is the Director of User Experience at SemanticBits, and has had extensive experience in user research at IBM and Workiva.
