“In the past several years, Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion (DEI) have become more important and visible in the workplace. Studies have shown that organizations are often more successful when they are more diverse, yet the tech sector is moving slowly to improve representation and inclusion. Many IT professionals want to improve but don't know where to start. This session will cover key concepts in DEI, how it impacts data practitioners, and provide resources & strategies to improve your DEI-IQ. Session Level: Beginner Prerequisites: Interest in growing DEI knowledge & skills; an understanding that sometimes growth can be uncomfortable.”

About the Speakers

Andrea Mascher (she/her) is the team lead for SQL Server database administration at The University of Iowa and an advocate for increased gender diversity in STEM fields.

Sarah Mascher Wallace (she/her; they/them) is an application developer in the Data, Analytics, and Insights (DAI) team at The University of Iowa and endeavors to cultivate balance and belonging in the workplace.
