Approaches to Reverse Engineering Java Applications w/ Nick Starke

July 20, 2021 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm CDT

Why would anyone want to reverse engineer your Java applications? In this presentation we will discuss techniques, tools, and goals in reverse engineering Java applications. We'll focus primarily on server-side applications but also delve into client-side applications in the form of Android/Dalvik applications. We'll even discuss modifying Java applications without access to the source code. Finally, we will look at ways to mitigate the danger reverse engineering poses to applications.

Nick Starke is a Threat Researcher at Aruba Threat Labs within Aruba Networks, a Hewlett Packard Enterprise Company. Nick focuses on networking device firmware security with an emphasis on binary exploitation. When he isn't hacking on networking equipment or firmware, he can be found hanging out with the SecDSM (https://secdsm.org) crew, where he is a board member. If you have any questions or comments on his presentation, Nick welcomes your feedback and can be reached on twitter at https://twitter.com/nstarke.
